Nassif's Dualsport Adventure 2004

Jim Nassif organized a group of friends and relatives to dualsport Alaska for a week. They wanted the most rugged, dirt-oriented ride possible, so I put together a custom 6-day tour for them. We sought out the dirt on all the backroads, mining roads and unmapped trails I know. We concentrated on the southcentral part of the state, had terrific weather, and saw all sorts of wild animals including bear, moose and caribou . One of the riders brought his fly-rod, and caught salmon along the way! We ventured out to McCarthey, in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, and had a great time exploring the side-roads of the Denali Highway.

The group showed up a couple of days before the scheduled ride to explore the Kenai Peninsula. Here they are at the shop, gearing up for the adventure.

This photo was taken by Rick Henry in downtown Hope. Not much traffic that day! Can you believe that during the goldrush, this town was one of the largest in Alaska? The Seaview Cafe has great seafood chowder, so check it out next time you are in town.

Here is their B&B in Girdwood. The Winner Creek B&B is a beautiful structure, close to the ski resort, surrounded by mountains, and the hosts prepare a huge breakfast every morning!

The group is checking out the mining roads on the Kenai Peninsula.

Jim brought a group of adventurous riders from Pennsylvania to tackle Alaska by dual-sport motorcycle.

Here is Jim Jr., checking out part of the original Iditorod Trail. Where's you dog team, Jim?

Now this is really "backwoods" riding!!

Here is Jim Jr., riding the Glenn Highway on a gorgeous day.

Here is the crew leisurely getting beat by Gwen, our mechanized sherpa (second from right) at McCarthy Lodge.

Here is some action on one of the most scenic and exhilarating off-the-map roads in Alaska!

Here comes #4!!

An old railroad tunnel from 1910.

Jim Jr., loving the riding!

We stayed at the historic Copper Center Lodge.

Here we are, riding the Denali Highway. The country is extraordinary: open and filled with wildlife.

We stayed at the "Clubhouse" at the Gracious House Lodge on the Denali Highway.

We came across a bear and many caribou off the Denali Highway.

Do these KLRs come with windshield wipers?

How did you get so wet Kurt?

The group enjoys a picture.

The Nassif Tour was the most adventurous ride I have put together so far in Alaska. This kind of custom tour is a real motorcycle adventure designed for those who want to see remote parts of Alaska, and who are comfortable riding on dirt. We accessed some incredible country, the kind of wilderness most folks never experience. Alaska is truly the last frontier, and riding it with a dualsport motorcycle is the best ways to explore it! If your group would like to do this kind of custom tour, please contact me, and I will gladly put something together. I can handle groups up to 10 experienced dirt riders, and would love to show you the real Alaska.

I have room for one custom tour at the beginning of September, 2005. Please contact me for a custom dualsport tour:
