John on a BMW F650 GS in front of the Susitna River, off the Denali Highway

Lakeland, Florida, meet Arctic Circle.

Richard's Photo: His BMW F650 GS with the Matanuska Glacier in the background.

Downtown Coldfoot, Alaska.

(you should see the Uptown!)

Riding the Denali is a treat, especially with warm weather like this.

The Denali Highway is open and very scenic. It is the best Alaska has to offer.

This is a picturesque scene off the Denali Highway. Uniquely Alaska.

Richard's Photo. A healthy string of Halibut. Richard came up early and spent a couple of days riding a BMW F 650 GS around the Kenai Peninsula. For those of you who have extra time, I strongly urge you to do this too....the scenery is fantastic!

Here's a typical "rollercoaster" on the "Haul Road" - the Dalton Highway. These whoop-dee-doos are fun, and sure do keep you on you toes.

The hospitality at the Hotspot Cafe was unparalleled. They took great care of us, including a full buffet with salad, mashed pototoes, gravy, fried chicken and other great stuff when we returned from the Arctic Circle.

John and his son Logan came up from Florida and had a terrific trip. Logan threw alot of rocks.

The towers of the Matanuska Glacier.

Here's the Maclaren Glacier and its river, off the Denali Highway.

Richard is apparently using the beach at Ninilchik as a kickstand.

Here is Richard and Dr. Gregory Frazier at the gas station in Fox. We have all met up, and are now headed up the Dalton. Destination: Yukon River.

Richard and the Matanuska Glacier. They let you ride right up to it and walk around on it. Once you are on it, you realize how emense and old the thing is.

Richard met Santa when we passed through North Pole, Alaska.

Dr Gregory Frazier is crossing the Susitna River on the Denali Highway. This wood-plank bridge is only accessed in the summer. The Doctor is riding a Kawasaki KLR 650, like the one he road around the world (the 4th time!!).

John is loving the open riding of the Denali Highway. The BMW F 650 GS was perfect for the trip.

We took over Maclaren Lodge on the Denali Highway.

!!

Here's Bill on a BMW 1150 GS Adventure.

And what a day for it!!

Here's Dan, setting up the tents on the runway at Tatlanika. Sign of age: I am not planning any more camp trips for the 2004 season.

Here's a typical scene from the Denali Highway.

Bill and John at a rest stop along the Dalton Highway. The road was in good condition this trip, with many sections being newly paved. The mud is a symbol of pride.

BMW F 650 GS and BMW 1150 GS Adventure

This is the first day of the trip in front of the hotel in Wasilla. All the bikes are clean and ready to go. There is excitement in the air, knowing we are headed north tomorrow....

Here we are at the end of the trip in Anchorage. Showered and fresh after an incredible day of riding, we went out for a great dinner at Simon and Seaforts, overlooking Knik Arm and Mt. Susitna.

Here's a photo from Hatchers Pass. This little morsel of dirt riding is very scenic, and bypasses most of the rather monotonous riding south of Willow and Wasilla. the alpine scenery and the dramatic switchbacks make for an exhilarating ride.

Richard's photo. Here is Downtown Hope on the Kenai Peninsula. It used to be a gold town, way before the road was punched through to it. Now it sets at a dead-end of a great twisty, which features rushing rivers, glaciers, steep mountains and fabulous coastline. The town is so sleepy, you may need to be patient, as it wakes up to greet you. The chowder at this cafe is great. I also recommend the pie at Tito's Cafe in "Mid-town". Salmon team up the steam in July.

Here we are relaxing at the Hotspot Cafe, just 5 miles north of the Yukon River on the Dalton Highway. You would be suprised how many riders come through here during the summer from all over the world.

Same came up from Ilinois to ride to the Arctic Circle. The BMW 650 Funduro was great for the trip.

Here is John and Logan in front of the sign demarking the Arctic Circle. Later on, I took Logan fishing for Grayling. He caught one the first cast!

The Matanuska Glacier can be seen creeping back around the corner from the Glenn Highway. The Glenn is a National Forest Scenic Byway.

I am the designated "Bug Cleaner"

Richard came up from Indiana to ride to the Arctic Circle. He bought a GPS for the trip, and loved riding extra days before the tour on his own.

Richard and the "Great One" Denali. a.k.a Mt. McKinley. At 20,320 feet, it is the tallest mountain you will ever see on the North American continent.

Here is Richard in front of the Alyeska Pipeline. It stretches over 800 miles from the shores of Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean to Valdez on Prince William Sound. We ride along-side it for about 500 miles.

This sign indicates that your are entering the Matanuska-Susitna Burough, home to a variety of calibers.

This is summit lake at the top of Hatchers Pass. This particular section of road is only open a couple of months per year due to snowfall.

The Tangle Lakes, Denali Highway. There is great grayling fishing along the way.

Sam, riding soundly along the Denali Highway.

Mt. McKinley and BMW
