2005

Northern Expedition Tour

After offering a "Special Price", we ended up with Darrin and Lance as our guests for the week. Andy joined us to learn the ropes of this most demanding job. He did well, though, and really came through by the end of the trip, by making for everyone a bonofide potatoe gun.

We had a couple of bikes to deliver, a guide to train, and even picked up a special guest rider along the way!

Because there were only two riders, formality gave way to just a couple of friends having fun riding througout Alaska. In other words, we made fun of Lance all the time.

Darren, former Florida State Enduro Champion, shows off his
72 inch zip-ties

Mr. California, majoring in B.S., demonstrates the
use up his latte holder.
(We never did see him demonstrate the use of his brain.)

Andy: guide in training. He is studying to be a paramadic, and we are looking forward to having him on the road next year! Usually a street bike rider, Andy found the KLRs to be so fun, that it looks like he is coming over to the dirt side! Clean your face, Andy!

Extra bikes loaded and ready to go. We shuttled two 2005 Suzuki V-Strom 650s to Prudhoe for Mike and Jeff. They were planning on riding back to their homes in Seattle.

First day out, and they are already cold....!!

Clouds shroud Hatcher Pass.

We ended up camping about half the nights. Here we are at a nice spot near a river on the Petersville Road.

Here comes Darren, barreling down the Petersville Road.

The ultimate Power Wagon!

Andy zipps by on the Parks Highway. Darren is coming up in the rear view mirror. .

The Three Amigos scout out an old wagon trail.

Andy, having fun "off the map".

Go Lancy!

The views were spectacular on the Steese Highway.

Keeping the bikes clean. Mr. California gets the "good guest" award this day. (it was taken away, however, almost immediately.)

We found some new mining roads.

Dust is a real factor when the rain stops.

Part of the 814 mile Trans-Alaska Pipeline.

Riding through wild grass.

Darren locks 'em up near Wiseman.

Cocktail hour with Lance. Apparently he is at a loss with a handy tool in his posession.

Lance's helmet. Well fortified with a fresh layer of duct tape topped with an ART sticker.

A brief stop just south of the Brooks Range.

Our faithful Hula Dog, always with a smile, keeps me company while I drive the support van.

The Haul Road snakes north, out of the Brooks Range.

Mr. California "pumps up" his pose while strolling through the
Arctic Ocean.

Prudhoe Bay:Jeff and Mike were happy to receive their bikes,
and get on the road.

Caribou cross the road south of Deadhorse.

The support van in heavy ungulate traffic.

Fellow riders gather for an improptu music session.

Don't get sore in the saddle!

Frank takes us for a ride on the Tanana River.

Harold, salt of the earth, tells it how it is.

Darren, G.T. (our guest rider), and Andy challenge a
bumpy 3-wheeler trail.

In search of Wyatt Earp's Cabin, we encounter mud.

G.T. (whom we picked up along the haul road) and Lance share conversation over a delicious MRE.

"I've got you, Babe!"

The boys having a splash of a time.

We found some more new mining roads in the mountains on
the Denali Highway.

Finally, some rain! Darren and Lance struggle with the
new encounter.

The sign says it all.

Lance simply would not face the fact that his voice was terrible. Darren, on the other hand, was well aware of his talents from the start. It has happened time and again: guests walk into the bar, see the kareoke machine, and immediately pronounce that they will have nothing to do with singing in public. The next thing you know........

Lances bed-head makes the moose look good.

Dr. Suess (no kidding) and his top nurse/assistant, remedy the ailments of the trailer.

Here's to the ride!!

The Northern Expedition was a great time, with many laughs and adventures. We will be running only one trip to Prudhoe Bay next year. Please check out our tours, and book early....this one will definately fill up fast!
