Alaska Peninsula

The Alaska Peninsula is one of the world's premier hunting and fishing areas. This remote, 500-mile long strip of land is a land of superlatives. It is home to the world's largest population of Brown Bears, the world's largest Moose, the largest Caribou, the largest concentration of migratory geese as well as the world's largest run of salmon.

Kings, Silvers, Sockeyes, Chums and Pinks return to the numerous rivers and streams by the millions from June- October. Accompanying them and feeding on their eggs and the dying are Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic Char and Grayling by the thousands.

Here Phil is holding up a healthy Silver Salmon. They have some spots they get to that never get fished, except by bears!
Tia holds up one fresh Red or (Sockeye) Salmon. She is standing on the shore of Lake Becherof, Alaska's second largest lake. This lake produces some of the best salmon spawning habitat in the world...without human pressure. Some of the streams they fish out here do not have names!
One fat, healthy Rainbow Trout. Just a short flight away from their main camp, they may access these rich waters. You may catch these rainbows on dry flies, mouse patterns, and egg patterns depending on the season. These Rainbow Trout are completely natural, adding to the pristine feeling one gets when they visit this area.
Two happy fly fishermen, with their two aggressive, knuckle-busting Silver Salmon. Silvers, when hooked, go into a cartwheeling rage.......hold on!!

Grizzly Skins of Alaska is not a high volume, high dollar luxury lodge. Instead you will be a guest at our family's 40 acre wilderness homestead within Becherof National Wildlife Refuge and adjoining Katmai National Park. The scenery is spectacular and the terrain varies from low rolling tundra to towering, snow covered volcanoes.

Accommodation, while not luxurious, is comfortable enough for year around use by our family. There are separate bunk houses for guests with hot showers. With no more than four guests at a time you will receive personal attention as well as a varied fishing agenda.

Depending upon weather and water levels we may raft the Kejulik River for Salmon, Char and Grayling: fly to trophy Rainbow Trout streams or fish for Steelhead and Silver Salmon along the Pacific coast of Katmai National Park. With no set agenda we can explore seldom (if ever) fished creeds as well as the old standbys.

In order to maintain the quality and quantity of fishing we have a policy of returning all uninjured fish to the water unharmed. Single hooks are used when fishing for salmon and single barbless hooks for all other species.

A good crisp photo of the fish, the happy fisherman and the scenery we believe makes the best trophy. Fiberglass mounts, make from the fish's measurements and painted from a photograph make a mount indistinguishable from a skin mount, are more durable, and most important remind you that trophy you landed is till living.
