Alaska Rider Tours Presents:

Northern Expedition Tour
July 18th - 30th
2005

Prudhoe Bay, here we come!

Cross the Arctic Circle!
Dive into the Arctic Ocean!
Soak in natural Hotsprings!
Ride the most remote parts of North America!

Phil Freeman, owner of Alaska Rider Tours, will be leading this trip.

This ride features 13 days of exploratory riding from Anchorage to the Arctic Ocean on 2004 Kawasaki KLR 650's. It is by far the most adventurous and farthest-reaching of all the tours offered by Alaska Rider Tours. Stream crossings, stunning scenery, wildlife viewing… this tour offers it all for those who want an unforgettable adventure!

The Northern Expedition is for those who want to ride the most remote stretches of dirt highway on the continent. We will be focusing on our goal: Prudhoe Bay, and searching out adventurous side-trips on old mining roads along the tour route. The riding is 60% paved, 40% dirt. If you are interested is seeing the real Alaska this IS the tour! Are you up for a world-class motorcycle adventure?

See wild-life, ride unmapped mining roads, and meet colorful "sourdough" locals. We will be staying in hotels, historic roadhouses, and industrial containers (that's all they have in Deadhorse!). Get your gear ready, we are headed North!

This tour is featured in Road Runner Motorcycle Tour and Travel Magazine 2005 February Issue. Space is limited to 8 riders, on a first come/first serve basis.

After a stop in Fairbanks, we follow the Dalton Highway north, to the vast interior of Alaska. Stay at the Yukon River.

Friday, July 22nd:

Yukon River to Coldfoot - 133 miles (45 miles dirt)

We cross the Arctic Circle on this day. Though not a long day of touring, there are some mining roads to explore in the Coldfoot area, which will keep us busy for hours! Stay in Coldfoot.

Saturday, July 23rd:

Coldfoot to Deadhorse - 239 miles (200 miles dirt)

One of our longest days of touring, we will be riding the most northerly road in North America. We will cross the remote Brooks Range at Atigun Pass. Scenery is world-class, and the chance of seeing wildlife (from Grizzlies, Dall Sheep, Caribou, to Moose) is high. Stay in Deadhorse.

*Deadhorse is the small industrial town which supports the oil exploration at Prudhoe Bay. It located a few miles from Prudhoe Bay and the Arctic Ocean. To gain access to the ocean, one is required to take an authorized tour. (Security in the area is high due to terrorist threat to the oil infrastructure in Prudhoe Bay.) The cost of the tour is $37 per person. We may take the tour the morning of the 24th.

Sunday, July 24th:

Deadhorse to Coldfoot - 239 miles (200 miles dirt)

We ride a hundred miles of rolling tundra and cross the Brooks Range again. Stay in Coldfoot.

We ride south to the Elliot Highway turnoff. We then ride west to the small frontier town on Manley Hotsprings. This town was started as a trading post for the surrounding miners at the turn of the century. It still retains its remote and rugged charm. We will be staying at the Manley Roadhouse, established in 1906. The town is quaint, and boasts a population of 72. For those interested, there are some hotsprings to soak in, after a days' riding.

Wednesday, July 27th:

Rest Day in Manley Hotsprings

Rest day in Manley Hotsprings. This day is up to you: Rest, read, relax, or explore around the area on your KLR 650.
