Alaska Rider Tours Presents:
"Deadhorse Down"
Deadhorse to Fairbanks
June 24th - 30th 2005

Welcome to the Edge of the World!

Cross the Arctic Circle!
Dive into the Arctic Ocean!
Soak in natural Hotsprings!
Ride the most remote parts of North America!

Phil Freeman, owner of Alaska Rider Tours, will be leading this trip.

This ride features 5 days of exploratory riding from the Arctic Ocean to Fairbanks on 2004 Kawasaki KLR 650's. This tour is designed for those who are short on time, but want to make a motorcycle trip of a lifetime through the farthest reaches of North America. Stream crossings, stunning scenery, wildlife viewing… this tour offers it all for those who want an unforgettable motorcycle adventure!

"Deadhorse Down" features the Dalton Highway: the most remote stretch of dirt highway on the continent. We will start the tour in Prudhoe Bay, and search out adventurous side-trips on old mining roads along the tour route all the way to Fairbanks. The riding is 40% paved, 60% dirt.

The Caribou are migrating this time of year, so we will have a chance to see hundreds of them! Imagine having to stop your motorcycle while they pour over the road! We will also be visiting the old sourdough town of Manley Hotsprings. This remote town boasts a rich gold mining history and distinctly Alaskan frontier atmosphere. It also features natural hotsprings, so bring your swim suite!

We will be staying in hotels, historic roadhouses, and industrial containers (that's all they have in Deadhorse!). Get your gear ready, we are going to the edge of the world!

Alaska Rider Tours will have the motorcycles ready for you in Deadhorse. Space is limited to 8 riders, on a first come/first serve basis.

Itinerary:

*Deadhorse is the small industrial town which supports the oil exploration at Prudhoe Bay. It is located a few miles from Prudhoe Bay and the Arctic Ocean. To gain access to the ocean, one is required to take an authorized tour. (Security in the area is high due to terrorist threat to the oil infrastructure at Prudhoe Bay.) The cost of the tour is $37 per person. You may take the tour the afternoon of the 25th.

Saturday, June 25th:

Deadhorse

Please arrive in Deadhorse by Saturday (Alaska Airlines provides daily flights to Deadhorse from Anchorage). Hotel check-in. You will be able to take a tour of Prudhoe Bay and the Arctic Ocean in the afternoon (Please let us know in advance, so we can set it up). Welcome Dinner this evening. Stay in Deadhorse.

Sunday, June 26th:

Deadhorse to Coldfoot - 239 miles (200 miles dirt)

We will be riding from the most northerly point on the road system in North America. We will cross the remote Brooks Range at Atigun Pass. Scenery is world-class, and the chance of seeing wildlife (from Grizzlies, Dall Sheep, Caribou, to Moose) is high. Stay in Coldfoot.

Monday, June 27st:

Coldfoot to Yukon River - 133 miles (45 miles dirt)

We cross the Arctic Circle on this day. Though not a long day of touring, there are some mining roads to explore in the Coldfoot area, which will keep us busy for hours! Stay near the Yukon River.

Tuesday, June 28nd:

Yukon River to Manley Hotsprings - 137 miles (96 miles dirt)

We ride south to the Elliot Highway turnoff. We then ride west to the small frontier town on Manley Hotsprings. This town was started as a trading post for the surrounding miners at the turn of the century. It still retains its remote and rugged charm. We will be staying at the Manley Roadhouse, established in 1906. The town is quaint, and boasts a population of 72. For those interested, there are some hotsprings to soak in, after a days' ride.

Wednesday, July 29th:

Free Day in Manley Hotsprings

This day is up to you: Rest, read, relax, or explore around the area on your KLR 650. We have a chance to check out some of the mining roads in the area. Other activities include Pike fishing or visiting a dog sled kennel. Stay at Manley Roadhouse.

Thursday, June 30th:

Manley Hotsprings to Fairbanks - 152 miles (70 miles dirt)

From the edge of the world, we finally reach civilization in Fairbanks. Farewell dinner at 5-star restaurant this evening. Stay in Fairbanks.

Friday, July 1st:
